Subaru has a reputation both on and off-road. As such you have great car choices that range in performance and capabilities. Some of the most popular cars that Subaru offers are their SUV models. Particularly the Forester and Outback, both are great for intermediate off-road adventures and a daily driver.

What is a Subaru Powertrain Warranty?

A Subaru powertrain warranty is coverage specifically meant to protect your vehicle’s powertrain from workmanship faults and/or other defects in the parts. The warranty to ensure that the car is running smoothly and will be covered in the case of a mechanical breakdown.

What is the Subaru factory Warranty?

There are 5 warranties that come with the purchase of a new Subaru vehicle. The first of these warranties is the New Vehicle Limited Warranty that is a comprehensive bumper-to-bumper warranty lasting for 3 years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. Then you have the Wear Item Warranty which is also for 3 years or 36,000 miles and covers brake pads, clutch lining, and wiper blades.

The Powertrain Limited Warranty covers your critical powertrain system for 5 years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first. The Rust Perforation Limited Warranty lasts for 5 years, protecting your vehicle’s body panels from rust damage. The last little extra from Subaru is the Seat Belt Lifetime Limited Warranty. As the name suggests this warranty lasts for the car’s lifetime and covers the seat belt with its associated components.

What’s Covered under a Third-Party Subaru Powertrain Warranty?

Since the Outback is my favorite I am going to use the example of a 2018 Subaru Outback with a 43,000-mile odometer reading. A basic powertrain warranty could start you off from around $23 with terms of 5 years or 100,000 miles and an enhanced powertrain package for about $38 per month lasting 3 years or 49,998 miles, whichever comes first. The Subaru powertrain warranty cost is not so high and definitely worth the investment.

Keep your Subaru protected against mechanical breakdowns that have caused damage to your car’s powertrain. The powertrain houses the vital parts of your car that enable it to drive at all. These are the parts most often covered by third-party extended Subaru warranty provider plans:

Having an extended car warranty in place will not only save you the hassle of trying to figure out your next step after a breakdown, but you also get the benefit of added services that will supply you with fuel, towing services, and even accommodation and lodging if you are 100 miles or more from your residence.

Is a Third-Party Subaru Powertrain Warranty Worth It?

The Subaru factory warranty for your powertrain ends after 5 years or 60,000 miles, depending on which comes first. At that stage, you likely want to look into the option of having a third-party extended car warranty. Knowing that all your critical mechanical parts are covered gives you peace of mind and with the extra benefits, you will be able to easily manage all minor issues that come your way as a Subaru owner.
